In rough seas
The sea is workplace for many people who rely on well-functioning vessels, so they can perform their daily tasks. Noise and vibration measurements, robustness tests, and ship simulations are just examples of the different services we deliver to our maritime customers so that their ships and equipment is approved to cope with the harsh maritime environment. In this edition of the Agenda newsletter, you can read how Sika builds ship floors that dampen vibrations and noises from the engine compartment of the ship, ensuring that passengers have a pleasant travel experience.

For products with built-in radio equipment the journey towards the new Radio Equipment Directive (RED) has entered its final phase. Read about what you must do to be ready by 13 June, when the transition period for the old R&TTE expires.

Sika helps improve acoustics on ships
Low noise and vibration behavior in ships are important to ensure that passengers have a pleasant journey. The marine floor constructor, Sika Marine, collaborates with DELTA’s acoustics team to tackle the issue of quantifying the reduction of structure borne noise.
Transition period for the old R&TTE Directive ends soon
The transition period for the old Radio & Tele Terminal Directive (R&TTE) ends on 12 June 2017. From 13 June, all radio equipment must comply with the new Radio Equipment Directive (RED). Check here what you need to do to be ready in time.
Product mission profiling in practice
Mission profiles are an important part of the product development process and form the basis for the specification of product requirements - but how are mission profiles generated in practice for new products? A new SPM report provides practical examples of mission profiles and their derived tests.
Reliable software is an important part of a device's reliability
DELTA is underway with a project called ‘Physics of Failure’. The key focus of the project is finding out what is required to develop reliable products. In the project, we examine all mechanisms leading to product failure. One of these mechanisms is software. Even though software is not of a physical nature, it is incorporated into the majority of products, and thus a critical parameter in ensuring the reliability of products.
Quality of road marking is crucial for safety of self-driving cars of the future
In addition to pavement markings, the work in the ASTM committees E12.10 and D4.38 also covers all forms of safety marking on the road network as well as reflectors and road signs. DELTA is assisting with information for the ASTM standard on mobile measurements of the night visibility of pavement markings.
Opening the market for vessel performance monitoring and optimisation
Ship owners use a lot of money on gathering and analysing data regarding the conditions of their ships - especially if the two systems are incompatible. We are developing a new standard that will ‘translate’ data from the ship’s monitoring system, so the analysis system will be able to apply the data.
